The Education Gap
Uganda is home to nearly 2 million refugees, making it the largest refugee-hosting country in Africa. More than half are children who fled conflict in neighbouring countries, especially South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Ayilo Refugee Settlement is home to more than 39,000 refugees. 61% of the settlement's population are school-age children. Existing schools struggle with overcrowding, shortages of qualified teachers, and limited learning materials, making it difficult for many children to access quality education.
